Hijama, also known as cupping therapy, is mentioned in several hadiths (sayings and actions) of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Here are a few hadiths related to hijama: Narrated by Ibn Abbas: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "I did not pass by an angel from the angels on the night journey except that they all said to me: 'Upon you is cupping (hijama), O Muhammad.'" (Sunan Ibn Majah) Narrated by Abu Huraira: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever wants to perform cupping (hijama), let him search for the 17th, 19th, or 21st day (of the lunar month) and let none of you allow his blood to rage (i.e., prevent him from undergoing hijama) such that it weakens him." (Sunan Ibn Majah) Narrated by Jabir bin Abdullah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "If there is any good in your medical treatments, it is in the incision of the cupper (hijama), or a drink of honey, or cauterization with fire, as appropriate to the cause, but I would not like to be cauterized." Narrated by Anas ibn Malik: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Indeed, the best of remedies you have is cupping (hijama)." (Sunan Ibn Majah) Narrated by Abdullah ibn Abbas: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Healing is in three things: a gulp of honey, cupping (hijama), and branding with fire (cauterization), but I forbid my followers to use cauterization (branding with fire)." (Sahih Al-Bukhari) Narrated by Abu Huraira: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "If anyone of you has pain in a part of his body, let him perform cupping (hijama) over that area." (Sunan Abi Dawood) Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "If there is any good in your medical treatments, it is in the incision of the cupper (hijama), or a drink of honey, or cauterization with fire, as appropriate to the cause, but I would not like to be cauterized." (Sahih Al-Bukhari) Narrated by Ibn Umar: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Cupping (hijama) on an empty stomach is best. In it is a cure and a blessing. It improves the intellect and the memory. So, cup yourselves with the blessing of Allah on Thursday. Keep away from cupping on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to be safe. Perform cupping on Monday and Tuesday for the treatment of leprosy." (Sunan Ibn Majah) These hadiths emphasize the preference for performing hijama on the 17th, 19th, and 21st days of the lunar month. They also highlight the recognition of hijama as a beneficial remedy for various ailments. It's important to note that while these hadiths provide guidance, individual circumstances and health conditions should be taken into consideration. Consulting with qualified hijama practitioners, healthcare professionals, and Islamic scholars can provide further guidance and personalized advice based on your specific needs.
